WEF members include environmental, civil, and chemical engineers, biologists, chemists, government officials, treatment plant managers and operators, laboratory technicians, college professors, researchers, students, and equipment manufacturers and distributors." The Central States Water Environment Association (CSWEA) describes itself on its home page as "a Water Environment Federation (WEF) organization (Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin) offering multiple opportunities for the exchange of water quality knowledge and experiences among its members and the public and to foster a greater awareness of water quality achievements and challenges." The Illinois Water Environment Association (IWEA) describes itself on its home page as "a Member Association of the Water Environment Federation dedicated to improving Illinois surface, sub-surface and atmospheric water." Many of Fox Metro's employees are members of this organization.
The Illinois Association of Wastewater Agencies (IAWA) formerly known as the Illinois Association of Sanitary Districts (IASD), is a 65+ year old entity organized to help meet the needs of administrators and managers who are concerned with clean streams and are responsible for wastewater collection and treatment in the State of Illinois. Fox Metro is a member of this organization.
The American Public Works Association (APWA) states on its home page that its mission "...is to improve the quality of life by providing a forum for the development and exchange of ideas, information and technology, which enhances the delivery of public services by promoting the personal and professional growth of its members, and by advancing public works issues on the public agenda."
The Illinois Waste Management and Research Center (WMRC) is headquartered on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus. WMRC is a division of the Office of Scientific Research and Analysis in the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. WMRC helps Illinois industries, businesses, and citizens reduce and better manage generated solid and hazardous wastes released to air, water or land.
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) is t he Illinois General Assembly which was the first state legislature in the nation to adopt a comprehensive Environmental Protection Act. It was signed into law by Governor Richard Ogilvie and became effective on July 1, 1970. As a part of that act, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency was created.
